Here are some pictures to help you remember what a good bow hand should look like. You may notice that your friends who play violin or viola hold their bow a little differently.
A cello bow hand should feel very natural and relaxed. If you hold your hand in the air and let your fingers relax, they will probably fall into the correct position for a good bow hand. For most people, your two middle fingers will land right around where the hair connects to the bow.
The black piece that holds the hair on a bow is called the frog. Your thumb should touch the bow on the stick right next to the frog. The star in this picture shows where your thumb should go.
